Fiesta Tradicional: Domingo de Ramos

  • Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca Mexico (map)

Join us for a special Domingo de Ramos (Palm Sunday) celebration in the Ocotlán Valley! In the farming community of San Antonino a procession takes place where Jesus is carried on a bed of over one ton of locally cultivated vegetables. Community members also bring goods to donate to the church, everything from mangos, onions or fresh herbs like epazote and basil to live goats, whiskey, and shoes, each with a price written on a piece of masking tape. After Palm Sunday mass the church holds a sale of all the goods and the proceeds go to the church. Afterwards we will visit a clay sculptor´s house, have lunch at the market, and visit a traditional mezcal producer.
