What do I do if I need to reschedule or cancel my Mezcouting Experience due to a missed flight, illness, or any other reason?
Cancellation for ANY reason:
Mezcouting will provide a full refund if you cancel your Experience via email at hola@mezcouting.com or Whatsapp at +52 (951) 313-7656, 6 days or more prior to your scheduled trip (day trips only, please visit our Overnight Outings page for information regarding multi-day workshop policies).
If you cancel your Experience with 5 days or less in advance to the date you have booked, we reserve the right to keep your full deposit of 50% of the outing fee regardless of the cause (missed flight, weather, family emergency, illness, etc.).
When possible we will do our best to reschedule your outing with us during your stay without change in cost (within 10 days of the reserved experience). In this case if you or Mezcouting are unable to reschedule during your stay, we reserve the right to keep your deposit (50% of the total Experience fee) regardless of the reason in order to pay our community partners for ingredients and materials purchased as well as compensate us for the time it takes to coordinate each trip.
What happens if Mezcouting cancels my Experience?
All excursions are subject to the availability of our community partners and (while highly unlikely) subject to cancellation due to unforeseen circumstances such as a death in the family or road closures. We will do our best to reschedule with you. In the rare case that Mezcouting cancels the experience, we refund a 100% of your deposit within 1 business day.
What about road blockades?
While we do everything in our power to make each participant’s Experience educational, safe, and fun, some situations are completely out of our control. Oaxaca is a state of political activity and this can lead to road blockades and heavy traffic. We know the shortcuts and side streets and have always gotten around any bloqueo that has come our way in a safe manner, we just ask that you have patience and flexibility with a changing itinerary. We reserve the right to change departure and arrival times and even cancel due to these challenges. In case of cancellation on the part of Mezcouting due to road conditions Mezcouting will provide a 100% refund within 1 business day.
Please note that if you pay with a card we are only able to provide a refund through our card system within 24 hours of the transaction. After this period we will provide the refund by Venmo, PayPal, or bank transfer as indicated by you the customer within 1 business day of your written request.
What happens if there is severe weather or another natural disaster?
Experiences may be subject to cancellation on the part of Mezcouting due to weather conditions or road conditions. In the event of rain we do our best to continue Experiences as scheduled. We will do our best to reschedule in the event of road or weather conditions. In the rare case that Mezcouting cancels the experience we refund a 100% of the deposit within 1 business day.
COVID Protocol
While the most difficult part of the pandemic may be over we still require these safety protocols to keep our community partners, staff, and participants safe. Of the 20 families we work with in Oaxaca, each family have a person living with them either over 70 years old, with diabetes, with hypertension, compromised lungs, or a combination of multiple factors that make them more at vunerable to effects of COVID-19. Please remember that you are visitor to these rural communities, many of which do not have access to quality healthcare. Let´s work together to make everyone´s Mezcouting Experience healthy and fun! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on the date of your Mezcouting Experience in 2024-2025, all participants must:
Have a complete vaccination scheme and at least 1 booster against COVID-19 OR if you are not vaccinated you must show a negative rapid COVID test within 24 hours of your outing.
Have completed our online Waiver and Participant Information form.
Mezcouting participants must comply with our community partner´s rules such as wearing a mask or using hand sanitizer before entering a building.
Refusal to comply with any of the following measures will result in removal from the outing (no refunds will be available). Read our complete COVID-19 Protocol below. *Mezcouting reserves the right to update our COVID-19 protocol as the infection and vaccination rates change in Oaxaca.
Mezcouting guides and community partners are committed to making your trip with us healthy and safe for all participants and hosts. In order so ensure the best experience for all, Mezcouting is committed to the following protocol:
Vaccination
All Mezcouting guides and community partners over 18 years old are fully vaccinated and boosted.
During the Experience
Mezcouting will provide hand sanitizer and masks to any participants or community partners who need them.
Mezcouting staff will wear masks in indoor spaces at the participants or community partners´ request.
Mezcouting commits to continue providing clean, comfortable and safe transportation which is sanitized between groups.
Rescheduling & Cancellations by Mezcouting Due to COVID-19
Mezcouting guides and community partners will reschedule or cancel the Experience in the case of a guide or community partner becoming ill or coming in contact with anyone infected with COVID-19. In the event Mezcouting or participants cannot reschedule and cancellation by Mezcouting occurs for this reason, we will provide a 100% refund of your deposit to participants within 1 business day.
In the case of a Mezcouting guide or community partner becoming infected with COVID-19, Mezcouting will suspend activities with the infected person for 7 days. Mezcouting will provide a COVID rapid antigen test for the person after a period of 10 days. The person may only return to work with Mezcouting after 7 day quarantine and a negative test result.
In the case of a Mezcouting staff or community partner coming in contact with someone infected with COVID-19 but does not present symptoms. Mezcouting will suspend activities with the person for 3 days. Mezcouting will provide a COVID rapid antigen test for the person after a period of 3 days. The person may only return to work with Mezcouting after 3 day quarantine and a negative test result.
Contact Tracing
If Mezcouting learns that one of our guides or community partners that you interacted with has become infected with COVID-19 or been in contact with an infected person we will let you know so you can quarantine and test appropriately.
Just as Mezcouting guides and community partners work to keep our participants healthy, we ask Mezcouting participants to commit to keeping us healthy by:
Vaccination
Mezcouting participants be fully vaccinated with at least 1 booster OR show a negative COVID rapid test taken with 24 hours of your scheduled outing. Failure to do so will result in removal from the Experience (no refund will be available).
During the Experience
If you are NOT vaccinated, you MUST show negative test the day of your outing that was taken within a 24 hours of your outing.
All must Mezcouting participantes must sign our Waiver. Mezcouting reserves the right to remove any participant failing to comply with these measures (no refund will be given).
Mezcouting reserves the right to remove any participants presenting with symptoms of COVID-19 such as but not limited to a temperature above 99.6°F, cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath. See our Cancellation & Reschedule policy below for how we will proceed in these cases.
Mezcouting participants must comply with our community partner and local hosts´ rules such as wearing a mask or using hand sanitizer before entering a building.
Rescheduling & Cancellations due to COVID-19 by the Participant
If you need to reschedule or cancel your Experience due to presenting COVID-19 symptoms participants may reschedule their Experience at no extra cost within 10 days of the original tour (schedule permitting). You must show a positive COVID test taken within 5 days of your scheduled outing for this policy to apply.
Mezcouting reserves the right to keep your full deposit per person for any individual cancelling due to any illness with less than 6 days before your scheduled outing. This way we can pay our community partners for ingredients and materials purchased as well as compensate us for the time it takes to coordinate each trip.
Contact Tracing
If any Mezcouting participants experience COVID-19 symptoms after a trip with Mezcouting, it is your responsibility to let us know in order for Mezcouting guides and community partners to quarantine and test appropriately.
COVID Tests
We recommend bringing COVID home testing kits with you as they are not easily found in Oaxaca.
We recommend the testing center at Laboratorios San Francisco, Laboratorio Juárez both located in Colonia Reforma or at home testing services from Laboratorios Galindo.
