Teotitlán Chocolate Making Workshop

Schedule: 9am-3pm

  • Comfortable round trip transportation from Oaxaca city (40 mins each way)

  • Visit to a regional market

  • Breakfast at the market of local delicacies like chotolate atole, tamales, memelas, and tepache in addition to quesadillas and fresh fruit

  • Learn to make traditional chocolate from scratch with a cocinera tradicional, toasting the cacao, grinding it by hand on the metate, and forming it into bars to be used in cooking and hot chocolate

  • Take home some of the chocolate we make

  • Lunch prepared by a cocinera tradicional accompanied by our selection of traditional mezcal

  • Rug weaving and natural dye demonstration

  • Time permitting visit to Tule tree on the way back to Oaxaca

Beeswax Candle Making Workshop 

Schedule: 9am-3pm

  • Comfortable transportation round trip from Oaxaca city (40 minutes each way)

  • Visit to village market

  • Breakfast at the market of fresh juice, baked goods, memelas, and hot chocolate at market

  • Hands on candle making class with Velas San Pascual, making wax flowers, mounting them onto hand poured beeswax candles

  • Demonstration from our teachers of the candle making process and how natural dyes are created

  • Bring home the candle you create, help packing it for travel

  • Lunch prepared by a cocinera tradicional accompanied by our selection of traditional mezcal

  • Time permitting visit to Tule tree on the way back to Oaxaca

  • Drinking water and light snacks

Ocotlán

Red Clay Workshop

Schedule: 9am-3pm

Cost per adult: $155 USD/2,800 MXN

Cost per child (4-12 years): $77.50 USD/1,400 MXN

  • Comfortable and safe transportation round trip from Oaxaca city (1 hour each way)

  • Breakfast en route of tamales and fresh fruit

  • Visit to the home and workshop of a family that makes sculpture with local red clay specializing in figures of mermaids, Oaxacans in traditional dress, and fantastical creatures

  • Two hour clay workshop making our own pieces

  • Time permitting optional visit to dry flower artisans or embroidery workshop

  • Lunch of regional dishes at Ocotlán market

  • Drinking water and light snacks

  • Donation to community library

*Note that pieces created during the class need to be fired before taking them home, shipping them internationally is an additional cost not included

Alebrijes

Schedule: 9am-3pm

  • Personalized guide and translation (Spanish/English)

  • Comfortable and safe transportation round trip from Oaxaca city (1 hour each way)

  • Breakfast en route of tamales and fresh fruit

  • Visit to an alebrije workshop in San Martin Tilcajite, where we learn about the process of making alebrijes

  • Hands on workshop where we paint our own alebrijes, learning techniques and design from the artisans

  • Take home the alebrije that you painted

  • Lunch of regional dishes at Ocotlán market

  • Time permitting optional visit to a backstrap loom weaver´s workshop

  • Drinking water and light snacks

  • Donation to community library


Groups and pricing:

  • Each outing must have a minimum of 2 paying participants.

  • Children 3 years and younger join us for free.

  • Children aged 4-12 join us at half price.

  • Youth 13 and above pay the adult price.

  • Pricing is based on Open Outings for groups of 2-6 adult participants.

  • While we will try to make your family outing private at no extra cost, if you would like to garuntee that your outing to be Private for your group only, this incurrs an additional cost of $50 USD/1,000 MXN per adult for groups under 4 adults.

  • Car seats or strollers are available at an extra charge of $25 USD/470 MXN per seat or stoller per day.
